My work centers around my personal exploration of the unconscious and ephemeral. Drawing from imagery and ideas stemming from religious texts, mythology, fables, familial legends, and my own dreams, I fight to tie down my understanding of interpersonal and global systems. I am working to solidify my own understanding of myself and the space I take up in the world around me through object making.
As a primarily ceramic artist, I find comfort in giving non-physical ideas and characters a permanent place in this physical realm. From portraiture to free-standing objects, the narrative that threads my works together is one of grasping at a fleeting feeling, idea, or story. I utilize a concept-driven practice with distinct imagery, soft contrasts, and a variety of earthy colors and textures to attempt to explain my own universe.
